Periodontics

Periodontics is the study of gums and other areas around the teeth.Periodontal disease strikes an area just below the gum line called the sulcus. Without proper cleaning and dental visits, plaque and tartar build up in the mouth and collect at the sulcus. Eventually, this buildup, called calculus, will cause the gums to move away from the teeth, forming pockets in the mouth. These pockets fill with even more plaque. This shift can loosen teeth and damage bone.

In advanced stages of gum disease, we intervene using LASER TREATMENT that clears out the pockets, shrinks them, smoothens the root surfaces and rearranges the gum tissue into a more maintainable form. This is done in a “NO Cut and NO Sew” regenerative procedure usually in one appointment. It is very comfortable and most often our patients return to work the next day.

Laser Periodontal Therapy is a laser-based approach to gum disease using an Nd:YAG free running pulsed laser requiring specific knowledge and skills drawn from the whole of dentistry. To you the Patient this means: less pain, less bleeding, less swelling, less tissue removed, less down time, and less recovery time which is decidedly less costly to you and your employer.

The reasons we use Laser Periodontal Therapy are to: remove only the diseased tissue without removing any of the healthy tissue, maintain the height of the tissue around teeth, minimize pain and discomfort to the patient, get a closure of the periodontal pocket wound and allow healing to take place. Controlling periodontal disease makes it possible to save and restore otherwise hopeless involved teeth.
